Unionized Union Staff Pickets Their ‘Union-Busting’ Union Employer

Union within union holds a protest

LATHAM — The professional staff at the New York State Nurses Association held an informational picket on Monday morning to protest contract negotiations at the association — a union that represents 37,000 nurses in the state.

The staff, which is represented by United Steelworkers, has been working without a contract for 13 months. A representative of the steelworkers union said NYSNA eliminated experienced-based salary increments, restricted vacation time accrual, changed expense reimbursement policies and eliminated compensatory time earned for staff who sometimes worked excessive hours.
