Verizon Strikers Using Children, Harassing & Menacing Replacement Workers

It’s only been a few days since 45,000 CWA and IBEW members walked off their jobs at Verizon, however, incidents of harassment, sabotage, and illegal picketing have already begun to pile up.

On Tuesday, Verizon obtained an injunction in Pennsylvania and filed for one in Delaware “to prevent ‘illegal’ and ‘reprehensible’ strike activities such as keeping managers out of buildings.”

In one deplorable incident, a foul-mouthed IBEW member in New Jersey put his young daughter in front of a Verizon truck turning into a driveway as he berated the driver using expletives.

[Note: After this video of an IBEW striker using his daughter as a roadblock was posted and began circulating the internet, it was removed by the user. However, luckily, the folks at captured it before it disappeared entirely.]

On a union Facebook page, a menacing ‘note’ was posted to ‘scabs’ that read (in part):

…Pretty tricky trying to get the jump on us, but we’re a lot smarter than you think. Can you see how are tactics are changing? How it seems like you can’t shake us? Can you feel the noose tightening? That noose is called union brotherhood….

See you tomorrow…unless you man up and GO HOME!!

The Noose Around Your Throat,

Separately, the union militants have posted a ‘scab list,’ identifying individuals who have crossed the unions’ picket lines, as well as a company boycott list.

On Monday, Verizon issued a press release, detailing several incidents of sabotage (including fiber-optic lines being cut in several states) and offering a $50,000 reward for “information leading to the arrest and prosecution of individuals that intentionally damage Verizon cables or facilities or cause or attempt to cause physical injury to any Verizon employee or contractor.”

As noted earlier this week, the last Verizon strike involving this unit was in 2000 and involved some 85,000 Verizon workers. Since that time, the unions have lost some 40,000 members as more and more customers turn toward Verizon’s wireless service, which is non-union.

In fact, according to the Atlantic, “between 2006 and 2011, Verizon landlines have declined from 47 million to 25 million — nearly a 50% collapse in five years.” This dramatic decrease in Verizon’s landline business is likely a key motivator in the company’s desire to have its unionized workforce begin contributing more toward their health care costs.  And, since the strikers are out on strike against an old and dying business that only accounts for 12% of Verizon’s operating profits, the unions’ strength will be waning regardless of the length of this strike. [Verizon’s more profitable wireless division is almost 100% non-union.]

In the meantime, while the CWA issued a statement stating that the union does not condone illegal actions, the actions of the union militants are beginning to resemble the 2000 strike with its 455 incidents of sabotage, vandalism and harassment.

  1. Outside of the typical union thuggery and low dealing (and seriously, who puts their little girl in front of a moving truck?) what kind of morons does it take to decide to strike in this economy? Are these people nuts as well as stupid?

  2. Thank you for giving us REAL workers a shopping list of places to BUYCOTT when we want to support those that do not support your absurd behavior, like putting children in front of a truck! You now belong in the same group as public employees unions! We are sick of the disgusting behavior!

  3. GOOD NEWS: I have made calls & sent emails re: CHILD ENDANGERMENT/ABUSE & received this response today:

Thank you for contacting the New Jersey Department of Children and Families. Your concerns have been forwarded to the State Central Registry. In New Jersey, any person having reasonable cause to believe that a child has been subjected to abuse or neglect should immediately report this information to the State Central Registry (SCR) by calling 1-877 NJ ABUSE (1-877-652-2873). If the child is in immediate danger, call 911 as well as 1-877 NJ ABUSE. A concerned caller does not need proof to report an allegation of child abuse or neglect and can make the report anonymously if they so choose.

I hope this information is helpful. Please contact this office again as needed.

Please call in a complaint, you don’t have to give your name or even your state (as this story has gone viral….if the social worker doesn’t think they can do anything, ask to speak w/ their supervisor. Have the page, the date & your opinion of child endangerment/abuse in front of you….let’s have this dad charged asap. It’s up to NJ/& all of us-even from any of the 57 states w/ the video evidence in hand to report this jerk…Glenn Beck’s website THE BLAZE identifies the union as : IBEW Local 827. According to that union’s website, it’s a New Jersey branch of the AFL-CIO…don’t leave the 24 hr hotline w/ out at least speaking to a “supervisor” ask them to register your concern on a DYFS “Information Taken” report (there are reports besides mine on their computers) . Tea Partyers and all concerned should make the call…do it for the kid.

    • you are kidding me right? you have too much time on your hands, this guy will NOT be charged I can guarantee you that. He made sure the truck stopped completely….so if the girl would’ve been hurt, it would’ve been the driver’s fault for hitting the gas pedal…am I right?? So keep trying you piece of shit $9/hour puppet.

      • Not so Johnny. This father coerced his child into a dangerous situation. He directed her verbally to stand in a lane of travel for motor vehicles. Aside of the profanity and lewdness he exhibited, he obviously shows signs of volitile behavior. This video provides enough discovery for the prosecutors office and DYFS.
Based on the outcry from the public for him to be fired and face crimminal charges…. The court will make an example of his idiotic behavior.

      • Watched it several times Johnny, the POS father has his daughter behind him. The driver can’t see the daughter.
The Truck stopped because of the Father was in the way, as the POS father moved out of the way the driver started moving again, lucky the driver saw the child and stopped again.

If the daughter had been just a couple inches shorter she could have been killed.

With the POS father yelling threatening the drive would have been more than justified to floor it and get out of this deranged POS area.

Ya know who else uses children as political pawns? Terrorist.

  4. Do you people realize that some of these “management” employees are computer programmers and technical support people who are forced to fill in or loose their job?
I know this because I am a former “management” employee.
BTW – I don’t think asking each employee to contribute $100/month for health care is not unreasonable.

  5. OMG! That little girl SHOULD be put into a safer home with someone who is not willing to put her in danger like that. What does he do to her in private???? I feel so sorry that she has to deal with such disgusting excuse for a father. I wish her the best for her future but also fear for her.

  6. This guy deserves prison time for child abuse. Hope the courts see this video and take action. Clearly, he has no life skills to be a productive citizen, hence the thug mentality and loss of his job. Probably is responsible for cutting their fiber optic lines as well. Scum bag needs to be digging ditches for some waste management company.

  7. As a former Supervisor of Verizon Wireless. Verizon Wireless is not scared of their employees forming a Union. Their afraid of their Supervisors forming a Union. That’s why they kept pushing the Union material on us to keep the employees quite when all along we the Supervisor really needed a Union. Verizon Wireless is very unfair to their Supervisors
