In 1987, 30 years after it was expelled (for corruption), the Teamsters union was welcomed back into the AFL-CIO.
Two years later, the US Justice Department sued the mob-run Teamsters under the Racketeer Influenced & Corrupt Organizations Act, which led to federal oversight of the Teamsters that continues to this day.
In 2005, the Teamsters disaffiliated from the AFL-CIO and, along with four other unions, formed the Change to Win federation.
