AFL-CIO Boss Sings Praises For Pelosi As House Speaker

As Nancy Pelosi [D-CA] is poised to return to Congress with her party in control of the House of Representatives, she faces a fight to regain her role as House Speaker. On Saturday, AFL-CIO boss Richard Trumka seemed to signal he wants her in the Speaker’s chair.

With the Democrats taking control of the House of Representatives in January, Nancy Pelosi [D-CA] is facing a fight from inside her party to become Speaker of the House again.

Ten Democratic incumbents or members-elect told POLITICO that they will vote against Nancy Pelosi for speaker on the House floor, exposing a serious problem for the California Democrat in her bid to reclaim the gavel.

On Saturday, however, Pelosi received a seeming endorsement of her regaining the Speaker’s chair when Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO stated on Twitter:

.@NancyPelosi has always been an effective advocate for working families as a leader of her party and I’m confident she will continue as such in the new Congress.

Trumka has long been a staunch of supporter of Pelosi’s, tweeting his support of Pelosi to be the Democrats’ leader in 2016, stating:

.@NancyPelosi was w/ us before and after the election. Our agenda is her agenda and that’s why we’re with her to be the Democratic leader.

The fact that Trumka is seeming to suggest that the House of Labor backs Pelosi as Speaker should go a long way to ensure her ability to stave off challengers.
