The lights are on, but no one is home today at Vox Media.

NEW YORK, NY—The unionized staff of the ultra-liberal Vox Media has walked off their jobs this afternoon in protest of management’s intransigence at the bargaining table.

Founded in 2014 by liberal writers Ezra Klein, Melissa Bell, and Matthew Yglesias, the staff at Vox Media unionized with the Writers Guild of America East in January 2018 and began bargaining in April 2018.

However, despite their founders’ professed love of unions, the union has been unable to obtain a contract with Vox’s corporate management team for the last 14 months.

As a result, on Thursday afternoon, the WGA’s ‘Vox Media Union’ tweeted, “Our NYC colleagues are gathering today to fight for a fair contract NOW—with even more joining in remotely.”

While the strike may be temporary, a search of Vox’s front page reveals there are no new posts up since yesterday (June 5).
