Idaho deputies want to switch union horses, dump SEIU

Yes, it true.  The police who are chartered with the task of protecting all citizens from thugs of all shapes and sizes are sometimes represented by seeming thug unions themselves–including the SEIU.

Well, the Sheriff’s deputies in Nez Perce, Idaho want to change that by dumping the SEIU and joining the FOP.

The Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office is seeking new representation before it enters into coming union contract negotiations with county administration.

Sheriff’s Cpl. Jerry Florence, along with two other deputies, requested permission from the Nez Perce County commissioners Monday to terminate the office’s contract with Service Employees International Union.

The reason for the split, Florence said, was to start representation from the Fraternal Order of Police as soon as possible — a group he said better understands the unique needs of law enforcement personnel.

“We operate in a different realm than most county employees,” Florence said. “We work 24/7; we work holidays. When we deal with people, we deal with them differently and get into a little bit more hazardous situations.”

The commission agreed separate representation might work better for the sheriff’s office and gave permission for the deputies to contact SEIU to discuss breaking the contract.

No word whether the SEIU is taking the deputies’ calls.
