New York apple growers soon will be crossing the picket lines surrounding the Mott’s LLP apple processing plant in Williamson to retrieve bins and supplies to prepare for this year’s harvest.

Roughly 300 workers at the plant have been on strike since May 23. The Texas-based Dr Pepper Snapple Group Inc., which owns Mott’s, is using temporary workers at the site during the strike.

“While the strike may have slowed down production at the plant, it has not slowed down the growth of close to 16 million bushels of apples in Western New York, many of which are destined for processing,” said Jim Allen, president of the Fishers, Ontario County-based New York Apple Association, in a statement. “When apples are ripe, they have to be harvested, and growers will be delivering this year’s apple crop to the Mott’s plant as usual.”
