DETROIT (WJBK) – Mayor Dave Bing is asking Detroit’s 48 employee unions to make health care concessions or else.

Union leaders are meeting with the mayor on Monday to talk about his suggestion. If they don’t give up concessions, the city, Bing says, could end up in the hands of an emergency financial manager.

We caught up with the mayor Friday afternoon. He told FOX 2 when it comes to the health care concessions and the unions, he’s not willing to budge. Why?

“We’re paying 108-percent of their salary for health care benefits. That is not sustainable. We can’t continue to go down that road,” Bing said.
