While many have written about the favorable treatment given to the United Auto Workers during the Obama administration’s “structured bankruptcy” of General Motors (and Chrysler), this is stunning.
New emails obtained by The Daily Caller contradict claims by the Obama administration that the Treasury Department would avoid “intervening in the day-to-day management” of General Motors post-auto bailout.
These messages reveal that Treasury officials were involved in decision-making that led to more than 20,000 non-union workers losing their pensions.
Republican Reps. Dan Burton and Mike Turner say that during the GM bailout, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner decided to cut pensions for salaried non-union employees at Delphi, a GM spinoff, to expedite GM’s emergence from bankruptcy.
[snip]
The key point of the Wednesday hearing was to show that the Obama administration advised GM on how to eliminate the Delphi workers’ pensions. The evidence suggests Geithner’s team played a significant role in that process, despite claims to the contrary.

At last Wednesday’s hearing before the House of Representatives’ Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs, Stimulus Oversight, and Government Spending , Bruce Gump, a retired Delphi employee, called the PBGC cuts made to the younger Delphi workers’ pensions “political, illegal, unethical and immoral.”
“Even though the government is charged with protecting all citizens, they did nothing for the salaried,” he said. “They cared for the groups that were rich and large enough to retaliate.”
Apparently, equal protection under the law only applies for unions and the well connected.
Unbelievable.

Sounds to me like more the better reason to unionize. IF this is true (or the whole story) it just points out the reason that getting behind the power of a union is so important.
Seriously? We have a crooked SOB in the WH who is willing to subvert the law and plunder the public treasury for anyone willing to subsidize his election and you think that’s a good reason to get behind him and his union henchmen?
Sounds like dhimmitude. Hang around snakes, and you’re going to get bit. BHO and his union thugs are snakes. Siding with them won’t put you on the winning team, it will just put you on the team that is opposed to the ideals behind America.
Yeah, let’s not bother with all that tiresome business of justice, freedom, equal protection under the law, theft, gangsterism.
Let’s just get on the side with the most muscle.
Now THAT is the America I was raised to believe in.
Now let me get this straight, Steve, if you know a guy’s going to beat you up if you don’t join his mob, you run twice as fast to join him. Sounds a lot like surrender to me.
LOL!!!
That was a joke right?
Funny around the union hall but not in the real world.
Sounds like the Mafia guy selling “insurance”!
Just another gangster shake down.
Why hasn’t anyone been arrested and prosecuted for these crimes? Doesn’t it just amount to THEFT by those involved?
