That unions have hijacked the #Occupy movement is not new news. That the SEIU even stole the ‘We Are The 99%!’ slogan for the 2012 campaign was not shocking in the least.
What is suprising, however, is the fact that the #OWS protesters are only now realizing they’ve been #occupied.
On Wednesday [via The Daily Caller], an #OccupyDC protester began to occupy a MSEA (SEIU) sign. This didn’t go over too well with the SEIU protester who reminded the #occupier that the sign was private property.
The results? The #occupier was reminded of her place as a mere union prop.
“That’s union-paid-for property!” one purple-clad SEIU demonstrator yelled.
The blonde, dreadlocked and face-pierced demonstrator was undeterred: “You are hijacking our movement! You aren’t occupiers!”
As the crowds began to split, self-appointed, orange-vested “safety marshals” were called to protect the union’s property from the “99 percent.”
“SEIU has supported Occupy from the beginning,” Maine SEIU organizer Bill MacDonald told a marshal.
“If there are any altercations,” he warned, “the police are our fraternal brothers and sisters.”
Remember, this is a “grassroots” effort…really.
