Frankly, this sounds like it was little more than a case of union infighting gone bad.
A former vice president and business agent of a Teamsters local suspended for allegedly using union funds for personal expenses will not face federal criminal charges, according to a letter from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware.
Michael S. Ciabattoni, 46, of Bear, was also Teamsters Local 326’s lobbyist in Dover and the chairman of the union’s Local Action Committee. He was removed from those posts in August 2012.
Union documents obtained by The News Journal last year showed that union charges were filed against Ciabattoni, but there was nothing to indicate that the matter had been referred to law enforcement agencies.
….
At the time of his suspension last August, Ciabattoni said the charges were false and had been leveled because he was running for union president against another vice president on Sept. 9. He never ran in that election because of the union charges. Ciabattoni resigned from the union shortly after the allegations were lodged against him. He created his own labor relations consulting firm.
