Given the choice between a state where workers can be fired for not paying tribute to a union versus a state where workers have the freedom to choose, up to 50% of manufacturers automatically screen out forced-union states.
This, alone, should be enough to convince most sane people that voluntarism trumps coercion when it comes to jobs and economic development.
Yet, there are still states who have to fight in order to get workplace freedom passed.
According to the Kansas City Star, Missouri may be one of those that is up for the fight:
“Six of our eight neighboring states are right-to-work states. When I was growing up in southeast Missouri, Tennessee was not ahead of Missouri in any economic indicator. They are today.” — Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder on the need for right-to-work legislation in his state.
Kinder is convinced the votes are there in the General Assembly to pass right-to-work in Missouri in 2014. If it does pass, the issue would go to the voters, and a massive campaign would be waged by both sides.
