The myth of union job security continues to crumble…
Waynesboro, Pa.–More than 200 production workers from the Waynesboro Johnson Controls Inc./Frick plant were unable to keep their jobs from being outsourced to Mexico.
Local union representatives were able to negotiate severance packages for the displaced workers, and also reach a new five-year agreement with the Wisconsin-based company Tuesday.
Todd Scott, president of the United Auto Workers Local 1296 at Frick, said the union voted on a new contract with 175 voting in favor, and 118 voting against the agreement. The new contract pertains to the plant’s remaining 150 production workers.
The outsourcing is expected to begin in March, and will be done in phases until the beginning of 2015.
