On Monday, the International Association of Machinists filed an election petition with the National Labor Relations Board in the hopes of luring 2,400 of Boeing’s Norch Charleston, SC employees to vote to unionize.
The union, after failing to stop Boeing from shifting work to the union-free South Carolina plant, has been trying to unionize Boeing’s employees
In response to the union’s filing, Boeing SC posted a video on its “We Are Boeing SC” website reminding employees that the union seeking their vote, once tried to shut them down.
The company’s website states:
It’s no secret that Boeing South Carolina (BSC) has been targeted by the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace workers (IAM) since former Vought teammates voted to decertify the union in 2009. We think our teammates deserve to pave their own future and keep their hard-earned money in their own pockets, rather than be locked into a contract and pay union dues to an organization that hasn’t contributed one bit to job growth in South Carolina and has repeatedly insulted our teammates, their experience and capabilities.
Although an election date has not been scheduled yet—the union, apparently, did not want to wait until the NLRB’s “ambush elections rules” take effect on April 14th—unless the union withdraws its petition, an election will likely take place within the next five to six weeks.
