Several years ago, there was a very public feud between the leaders Service Employees International Union and UNITE-HERE.

Although the feud was settled after 18 months, it appears the battle over Chicago’s next mayor may be re-igniting some old rivalries.

The Chicago mayoral election has Huffington Post calling it the “Most Important Election of 2015: Chuy Garcia’s People’s Campaign Versus Rahm Emanuel’s Big Money.”

Despite the double-digit lead, Chicago’s incumbant mayor Rahm Emanuel currently has, he is in the battle for his political life and former ally-turned-enemy SEIU is backing the Mayor’s opponent Jesus ‘Chuy’ Garcia.

UNITE-HERE, on the other hand, is sticking with Emanuel.

Both unions have released their own competing ads.

The SEIU’s “scathing” ad, according to In These Times, was funded by the SEIU’s Illinois Council PAC and “comes just over two weeks ahead of the historic mayoral runoff election between Emanuel and Garcia on April 7, in what is widely being viewed as a national referendum on neoliberal, corporate-centric governance—and the future of the Democratic Party.”

For its part, UNITE-HERE has released several ads, posted on a webpage dedicated to support of Rahm Emanuel.

One must wonder, no matter how Chicagoans vote, if the SEIU won’t be finding some dead fish in its mailbox the day after the election.
