On Friday, the Detroit Free Press ran a story about two auto workers at Volkswagen’s plant in Chattanooga, David Gleeson and Frank Stewart.
The story pictured Gleeson and Stewart attending the UAW’s convention held in Detroit under with the following caption:
The Free Press sotry went onto explain how, as new UAW members trying to unionize VW, attending the UAW’s convention has been an “eyeopener” for Gleeson and Stewart.
Gleeson and Stewart said attending the UAW convention has been an eye-opener for them because many of the issues and concerns they have about work schedules are similar to issues faced by autoworkers at the Detroit Three and agricultural manufacturers like John Deere.
This begs the question: If non-union autoworkers have many of the same “issues and concerns” that already-unionized autoworkers have, how is unionization and paying union dues going to help?
The Detroit Free Press did not provide an answer in its story.
