Team, I attended the prayer vigil today at Morris Brown AME Church along with Mike Luttig, Boeing executive vice president & general counsel, and several members of our site leadership team, and I wanted to share my experience with you. There were tears, grief, fellowship and mourning, and I know many of you may have felt the same today as we all try to come to grips with this horrible tragedy.

The vigil also revealed the strong character of this place we call home. It was a beautiful, positive and uniting service with inspirational words and uplifting song. The messages were powerful, inspiring the community to draw together, to recognize and deal with the intolerances that have resulted in such tragedies, and to embrace each other with hope, courage and resolve. I saw our community wrapping its arms around those who are in great need, and I am very moved to have been a part of it.

Our teammates, all of The Boeing Company, and our nation have heavy hearts today for what has happened, but we also have hope for the future and for healing. And it’s in that spirit of hope that Boeing is announcing today a donation of $100,000 to the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund established by the City of Charleston to help the families of the victims. Our commitment to this community is deep and strong, and we share in both our community’s grief and resolve.
