Union bosses Richard Trumka and Mary Kay Henry co-chaired anti-Trump network’s Spring gala.
Unions are among the Left-wing backers of a new $80 million anti-Trump network called the Center for Popular Democracy Action.
According to CNN, “the activist organization’s new initiative — which, as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit political organization, is not required to disclose its donors — arrives as part of a broader effort on the left to channel anger at the Trump administration into a lasting power base, with the ability to influence policy debates within the Democratic Party while boosting candidates on the local, state and federal levels.”
In late May, the CPDA hosted its “Spring Gala,” which was sponsored by the Communications Workers of America (CWA), SEIU, AFL-CIO, the union-owned Amalgamated Bank, the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers, RWDSU, UFCW, and Unite Here!, as well as Planned Parenthood and others.
The event was co-chaired by the AFL-CIO’s Richard Trumka and SEIU’s Mary Kay Henry.
Unions also have a heavy presence on the CPDA’s Strategic Advisory Council.
Although the Center for Popular Democracy Action is not legally required to disclose its donors, unions have long spent union dues money on Left-wing causes and, through their political action committees, left-wing candidates.
Even though unions have publicly called for an end to “dark money” in politics, they were among those that filed amicus briefs in the Supreme Court’s Citizen’s United case.
