Federal officials charge that a local Teamster boss and his wife used union money to buy airfare, alcohol, clothing, meals, store purchases and concert tickets.
EAST ST. LOUIS—Federal charges filed this week claim that the president of a local Teamsters union and his wife embezzled thousands of dollars.
An indictment filed Wednesday accuses Scott D. Alexander and Nancy L. Alexander, the union’s office administrator, of embezzling money from Teamsters Local 50 from January 2010 to June 30, 2016.
The indictment on a charge of embezzlement and wire fraud says the Alexanders misused the union credit card for personal purchases, took unauthorized vacation, increased their pay by manipulating their payroll withholdings and padded their auto allowance payments.
The couple used union money to buy airfare, alcohol, clothing, meals and for purchases at Target, Walmart, Starbucks, grocery stores, Home Depot and T.J. Maxx, the indictment says.
Federal officials also allege that, in 2014, the couple “used the union credit card to buy four tickets to the Big Head Todd and the Monsters concert at the Pageant in St. Louis.”
Earlier this month, Teamsters President James Hoffa put the local into trusteeship.
