On Tuesday, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested 146 illegal immigrants working at a meat-processing plant in Ohio.

The company, Fresh Mark was “once touted by the government as a partner in preventing hiring undocumented workers,” according to the Washington Post.

However, it appears that has changed.

ICE said the company may have knowingly hired undocumented workers, and many are using fraudulent identification belonging to U.S. citizens.

ICE officials raided the company’s plant in Salem, Ohio, about 4 p.m. Tuesday. Search warrants also were served at three other locations in the state. [Emphasis added.]

The union that represents the illegal immigrants—the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), a division of the United Food & Commercial Workers—called the raids “an egregious show of force by the Trump Administration.”

“Our union will not stand for violence against immigrants; we will not stand for tearing families apart and we will not stand for the terrifying tactics of the Trump Administration,” stated Stuart Applebaum, president of the RWDSU.The RWDSU is committed to assisting workers affected by this ICE raid and will continue to fight against any and all heartless attacks on immigrant workers seeking to provide for their families.”

The RWDSU, as has its parent union, the UFCW, and most other unions has become more focused on representing immigrants as a means of infusing its declining membership with new members.
