Police investigators believe they solved the “strange happenings” that have been going on for “quite some time” at the Steelworkers’ union office, reports Cantonrep.com.
Prosecutor Jason Reese alleges that Ms. Pamela Popovich kept the key to the office after being elected out of her union post May 2018.
Pamela S. Popovich, 49, of Plain Township, surrendered to Stark County Sheriff’s deputies on Wednesday. She was booked on a felony breaking-and-entering warrant and released later on a $2,500 unsecured bond pending her Friday court hearing.
The former steelworkers union board member is accused of breaking into the union office, stealing small amounts of money, eating snacks and rearranging items on employee desks.
“We are aware of the issue and have no further comment,” said Andrew Reed, president of U.S. Steelworkers of America Local 9187.
After employees had complained for long enough, the union installed cameras in the office.
Stark County court records show she can be seen on video going into the office about 3:30 a.m. March 29, states Catonrep.com.
Reese said She took 75 cents from the safe, $5.25 from an employee’s desk and $6 in chips and miscellaneous food, which she ate over the course of about two hours inside the office, calling the incident “a $12 heist.”
