“…the image was not meant as any sort of commentary on the relationship between de Blasio and Cuomo.”

The NYPD’s second union, the Sergeants Benevolent Association—a strong critic of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo—has found itself in the center of a bit of controversy after tweeting a picture of two men engaging in a sex act on a New York subway platform.

De Blasio, long considered to be “anti cop” by many inside and outside the NYPD, is often ridiculed by police unions and those who support the police.

The NSFW tweet, which was posted on Sunday (and later removed), was captured by the Gothamist and blasted New York City’s new “congestion pricing,” a plan to charge drivers who drive into midtown Manhattan a fee.

“Our political leaders have the AUDACITY to implement congestion pricing to repair subways and quality of life is a total DISGRACE. Thank you Mayor de Blasio and Gov. Cuomo. You have done nothing but ruin a city and the Police Commissioner remains your puppet.”

After the tweet was posted, some people on Twitter chastised the SBA, and the SBA later removed it.

“SBA president Ed Mullins said including the image in the tweet was a mistake by a junior staffer and the image was not meant as any sort of commentary on the relationship between de Blasio and Cuomo,” reported the New York Daily News.

“We took it down fairly quickly,” Mullins said. “The incident is legit. It happened around midday recently. The point was this occurred in the NYC subway system and a hands-off policing policy is simply unfair to the citizens. And where is the accountability from the governor and the mayor?”

Now that de Blasio is running for President, it is not likely that the SBA’s tweets toward the mayor will soften.
