Frey makes move toward plea deal
Ex-union boss may be going for more lenient sentence

The former Cincinnati city employees’ union president accused of embezzling more than $750,000 in union dues apparently has decided to plead guilty to the charge in the hope of securing a more lenient sentence.
A document filed Monday in U.S. District Court states that a change of plea hearing in the case of Diana Frey has been set for Sept. 21.
Last month, Frey pleaded not guilty to federal prosecutors’ allegation that she embezzled $757,009 since 2005 by fraudulently writing checks and making wire transfers, ATM withdrawals and credit card purchases to funnel union members’ dues into her own accounts or use them for her own benefit.
