As proof that unions will stop at nothing to see their goals achieved, the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) has become “bi-partisan” in a peculiar sort of way. The public-sector union is putting its own union candidate into a race as a Republican just to ensure a win by giving the voters a choice between AFSCME candidate A, or AFSCME candidate B.
State Assembly District 25 Republican candidate Andrew Wisniewski’s nomination papers were turned into state officials Tuesday by Jason Sidener, a political action representative for the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees.
“I absolutely believe he is pro-union and pro-public union compared to Bob Ziegelbauer,” the union official said of the nine-term incumbent, running as an independent.
Democrat Kerry Trask also has qualified for the ballot for the post representing the city of Manitowoc and southern portions of Manitowoc County.
“It is in our interest to see that Bob is defeated and having opponents from both parties helps that,” Sidener said.
Trask disagrees. “It makes no sense on the surface,” Trask said Thursday night. He was hoping for AFSCME’s endorsement. “This is weird,” Trask said.
“If they aren’t confident in me winning, this is an odd way to respond to that,” Trask said. “I feel a little bit that I have been messed with by AFSCME.”
Apparently Candidate A (Democrat Kerry Trask) doesn’t understand the master’s move: Place a bet on both horses in a two horse race guarantees a win.
Saul Alinsky would be proud. Talk about an “ends justify the means” moment…
