Elections are games of numbers and for DFLers in Tuesday’s primary, labor’s got puzzle pieces.
The unions have hundreds of trained foot soldiers making thousands of calls. They’re dropping myriad fliers, paying for scores of mailings and providing a backdrop of suited-up supporters at every event.
While they have waned in power from their heyday, unions still represent more than 300,000 Minnesotans. They are skilled political players and their turnout for chosen candidates might provide the difference between a win on Aug. 10 and a crushing loss.
