“Marijuana is against the law in the states and it should be enforced in all 50 states,” the New Jersey governor said on “Fox and Friends” Wednesday morning. “That’s the law and the Christie administration will support it.”
Christie’s comments came a day after he discussed marijuana enforcement at a town hall in Newport, New Hampshire.
“If you’re getting high in Colorado today, enjoy it,” Christie warned. “As of January 2017, I will enforce the federal laws.”
Christie, who has called pot a “gateway drug”, believes that if pot is to be legalized, it should be done through Congress.
His position, however, runs in direct opposition to the position of certain unions–most notably, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW).
As unions have been on the decline, the UFCW (along with the Teamsters) have been active in California, Colorado, and even in Christie’s own backyard, New Jersey, in fighting to unionize the budding marijuana industry in recent years.
