A Union Manufacturing “Crisis?” Products are still ‘Made in the USA,’ only now they’re made union-free

AFL-CIO Boss Richard Trumka

Remember the “good old days,” when things were still manufactured in the U.S.?

Well, unless you believe everything union bosses tell you, the fact of the matter is, things are still ‘Made in America.”

The problem, at least for unions, is that less and less of those things are “union made.”

Take a look at U.S. manufacturing jobs over the last 30 years and you can begin to see why unions are in such “crisis,” as AFL-CIO boss Richard Trumka bluntly stated a couple of years ago.

One can see that, while manufacturing as a whole is down 27% from 1986, it is not gone.

In fact, with nearly 14.5 million manufacturing jobs in the United States, “made in America” is still fairly strong.

However, what has significantly declined is the number of U.S. manufacturing jobs that were once unionized.

No wonder, this Labor Day, union bosses are chasing fast-food workers as union members of the future.

  1. This is encouraging news. However, while I take the extra effort to buy U.S.A.-manufactured products, it’s still impossible to be 100% buy-American non-Union. More goods should bear the “made in Union-free America.

    Thank you for this post.

  4. I just purchased my first bottle of vodka that was not produced outside the US and it is very good and comparably to vodkas I have consumed that were distilled in other countries. I will contInue to buy this particular US brand and any products produced in the US where the quality is equal or better than those manufactured outside our country. My pledge is to buy American first whether or not the manufacturer is unionized or not.
