JTA’s Drivers Overwhelmingly Authorize Strike

Jacksonville Transportation Authority drivers voted Sunday afternoon 185-4 to strike. About 100 members did not vote.
JTA officials said bus routes will not change or stop because of the decision. Riders have at least two more weeks of guaranteed routes.
Union members from the Amalgamated Transit Union, or ATU, voted at the IBEW Union Hall on Liberty Street around 3:30 p.m.
According to a news release from Jacksonville Transportation Authority, the union is asking for a 17 percent pay hike, an additional week of paid leave, 20 percent more for health insurance and an increase in pension contributions.
A 17 percent hike would take the average driver's salary from about $18 an hour to $21 an hour.
A union member said the union is only asking for a 9 to 12 percent pay increase.
The decision means the union members can strike, though it does not mean they definitely will. It is not clear when the strike may begin, but experts believe it may be several weeks if approved by the union.

The Union REALLY IS expecting a 17% pay increase across the next three years in their proposal. They are not being truthful now saying it is only 9 to 12. How do they come up with 9 to 12 anyway? When you perform math equations you don’t come up with answers like “9 to 12%”, do you?
Leave it to the union to not be truthful. It is unfortunate that hard working people still trust these folks. Preying on their ignorance.
