Businesses crossing Omnova line report tacks thrown in driveways

After crossing union workers’ picket lines at Omnova Solutions Inc., at least three local businesses have had roofing tacks thrown in their driveways, said Lowndes County Sheriff Butch Howard.

The tacks, which can blow out tires and damage vehicles, have been found at a delivery service, a forklift repair shop and twice at a janitorial service.

The first report was filed five weeks ago, and the two most recent attacks were last week, Howard said.

“It’s getting to be a pattern,” he said.

United Steelworkers Local 748-L President Jay Lawrence said he had been contacted by Howard and union workers were cooperating in the investigation.
