Another union embezzler is facing a pretty severe punishment–life behind bars–for stealing $17,000 worth of union members’ dues.

A Superior woman could face life behind bars for embezzlement from a labor organization.

39 year-old Shari Birch is charged with 21 counts of embezzling nearly $17,000 from Local 1760-A, which represents members employed at St. Francis Home in the Park in Superior, a skilled nursing facility.

An indictment alleges over a three year period, Birch deposited member dues into her own personal account – at times receiving cash back and once using the money to pay a phone bill.Birch faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison on each count.
