It was both revealing and reviling. Watching this video exchange [posted on Drudge] between President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan and Sen. Coburn indicates two things:
- She believes that government power is omnipotent
- She believes the government has the right to rule its citizens in every facet of their lives.
While Elena Kagan tried not to answer the question directly, she actually did when she said (after trying to laugh off the question):
“…and I think the courts would be wrong to strike down laws that they think are senseless–just because they’re senseless…”
Note that she did not state that she felt telling people what they can eat would be unconstitutional. Why? Because she thinks telling people what to eat is constitutional.
Besides the fact that the government is already trying to tell its citizens what to eat, Kagan’s remarks show the true face of a Statist. In other words: You, your life, and that of all citizens belong to the State, according to Elena Kagan’s philosophy.
If you stop and think about it a moment, Elena Kagan’s belief in the power of the government to dictate the lives of its citizens under the Consitution’s Commerce Clause is endless.
- Can the government dictate health care? Sure.
- Can the government dictate what you eat? Absolutely. That salt you put on your grease laden french fries is statistically proven (by the government’s health care statisticians) to cause heart disease which costs the government-run health care system money.
- Can the government tell you what job to have? Why not? After all, productive citizens make for a productive society.
- Can the government tell you which union to join? Fughedaboudit!
- Can the government tell you where to live? Why, that’s just a reallocation of the State’s resources.
- Can the government tell you which TV to buy? Um…Hello, California!
- Can the government tell you how many kids you can have? Oh h*ll yes! After all, those little urchins cost the government money, don’t they? What with government-run health care, schools, school lunches and all.
- Can the government tell you whether or not you may live or die? Oh, Shut up! A government would never do that…would it?
If you have not seen the face of tyranny before, you are seeing it now.
Tyranny is any political system (whether absolute monarchy or fascism or communism) that does not recognize individual rights (which necessarily include property rights.
Now, that you know what it means, what will you do about it?
